Sloan ends with win over Norway

Scotland's Anna Sloan ended her World Curling Championships debut on a high note with an impressive victory over Norway in Esbjerg, Denmark.Sloan and her Scottish rink had endured a torrid time of things in Scandinavia and went into their final clash on the back of a string of disappointing defeats, staring down the possibility of finishing the tournament in joint last place.

But come their clash with Norway, Sloan broke the shackles and racked up an impressive 6-3 victory, admitting things finally seemed to go her way.

“It was good to end on a high and that’s what we did,” said Sloan. “We tried to play a simple game every time we went on, so it was the same strategy, it just worked out better for us in this game.”

The victory was Scotland’s fourth from their 11 games and means that they will end the 12-team tournament in no worse than 12th spot.

Elsewhere, Sweden beat the Czech Republic in an extra end, to consolidate their top spot in the one-two Play-off where they will face China, who beat Denmark by 7-5.

Canada beat defending champions Germany to finish with seven wins, and they can be joined by either Denmark or Russia, who play each other in the final round-robin session or possibly Switzerland.
