Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero are the surprise omissions for Argentina's upcoming friendlies versus the USA and Costa Rica, to be played on the 26th and 29th of March.
Both players missed November's 1-0 victory over bitter rivals Brazil through injury and with Sergio Batista looking to build continuity in the squad, this appears to have cost them dearly.
There are few changes to the squad that defeated Portugal 2-1 last month courtesy of goals from Angel di Maria and Lionel Messi.
Independiente goalkeeper Adrian Gabbarini comes into the squad along with Federico Fazio, who replaces Nicolas Pareja.
Injury has also cost Fernando Gago and Diego Milito their places in Batista's squad so Fernando Belluschi and the in-form Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio have their opportunity to shine.
It is of course the absence of both Tevez and Aguero that will be the talking point for many, especially as the striking duo have scored an impressive 37 goals between them for their respective clubs, Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.
The full squad for the two friendlies to be played in the U.S is as follows;
Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero, Mariano Andujar and Adrian Gabbarini.
Defenders: Federico Fazio, Javier Zanetti, Ezequiel Garay, Pablo Zabaleta, Marco Rojo, Gabriel Milito, Nicolas Burdisso and Nicolas Otamendi.
Midfielders : Mario Bolatti, Javier Mascherano, Ever Banega, Lucas Biglia, Jose Sosa, Esteban Cambiasso, Fernando Belluschi, Javier Pastore and Angel Di Maria.
Forwards: Ezequiel Lavezzi, Lionel Messi, Nicolás Gaitán and Eduardo Salvio.
